Lewis Hamilton has been disqualified from Chineese GP for Breach of Article 3.5.9 of the FIA Formula One Technical Regulations .The thickness of the plank assembly of his SF-25 was below the permitted minimum thickness. “The plank assembly of Car #44 was measured and found to be 8.6mm (LHS), 8.6mm (car centerline) and 8.5mm (RHS). This is below the minimum thickness of 9mm specified under Article 3.5.9 of the Technical Regulations.” states FIA official document. In other word in all 3 points of check Hamilton’s car was less than the permitted 9 mm thickness.
The first example of similar esclusion goes to 1994 with Michael Schumacher Benetton in the year of introduction of the step bottom and plank and its scruteneering rules.
In that case the infringment was restricted to a front small section due to going on kerbs, for this reason from the Japaneese GP on FIA introduced 10 titaniun skid blocks to prevent occasional damage as you can see in my old drawings from the technical guide I started in 1994 till 1997.
It was one of the important steps with Ercole Colombo introducing myself to PMI responsable Maurizio Arrivabene. It was a small notebook devided in all sector of F1 cars. A kind of dictionary and “bible” for journalist only to help them to use right terms (in 4 laguages) and have history or tech evoluion of F1, updated constantly. Only in 1989 this notebook became the “TECHNICAL ANALYSIS” available on sale also for fans till 2018.
